Bellingham Hypnotist Explains Unique Career Pathway in New Book

(Press Release) Bellingham resident Erika Flint went from software developer to human-mind programmer, and she discusses this unconventional career pathway in her new book, “Can You Be a Hypnotist?

The book, which launched this month, addresses common misconceptions about hypnosis, explores the personality traits that hypnotherapists share, and features stories of people who left their careers to build a successful hypnotherapy practice.

“Hypnosis has changed in the last fifty years,” Flint said. “We know so much more now about which hypnosis techniques actually work, the neuroscience behind the most effective techniques, and the hypnotic language that is the most effective.”

Flint’s own story of career disillusionment is similar to stories of others who trained in her field. Before she discovered hypnosis, she spent more than 10 years designing software for the tech industry.

“I had this nagging feeling that in another twenty years, I would have spent the better part of my life sitting in this office, in front of a computer doing work that would be obsolete in three years,” Flint said.

Flint discovered that she was more interested in developing the human mind than in developing software.

“Hypnosis allows us to reprogram how the automatic processes of our brain function at the root level,” Flint said. “We can reprogram how we respond to situations and how we relate to people and circumstances. Hypnosis helps us to direct the functioning and abilities of the mind, including how the brain responds to sensory based information including our perception of pain. I had been programming computers for decades, and now I wanted to program the most powerful computing device available – the human mind. And I set out to do just that.”

Soon after embracing a new career as a hypnotherapist and entrepreneur, Flint founded Cascade Hypnosis Center for Training and Services.

Now, Flint is motivated by an ambitious goal: To create 1,000 world-class, certified hypnotists. She hopes her book inspires readers who are considering a meaningful career change.
